Measure Body Temperature

Body temperature refers to the temperature inside the body, i.e. the body core temperature.

The body temperature changes during the course of the day on a small scale. At night it is lower than during the day, whereas during physical activity it rises slightly. Usually a minimum is reached at night and a maximum in the afternoon. In women, the temperature also fluctuates by about 0.5 °C during the course of the cycle.

While the body temperature of the periphery (i.e. the extremities) is subject to significant fluctuations depending on the ambient temperature, the body core temperature of the internal organs remains more or less constant. However, the temperature of the internal organs also varies locally and these local differences can be measured. For example, the liver is the warmest.

In order to obtain relevant body temperature values, measurements should be taken at the location that is most closely affected: the eardrum, near the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is the control centre of body temperature and at the same time the hypothalamus is close to our most important organ, the brain.

How does our sensor technology measure the body temperature?

Cosinuss° uses two different types of thermometers, a contact thermometer based on a resistance measurement in °One and °Two and the optical infrared thermometer for the degree°. Both techniques have their advantages in certain applications. The optical measurement method was chosen for the degree° clinical thermometer because it allows a slightly faster measurement.

Studies

For all important parameters, extensive studies are carried out in cooperation with renowned partners and are statistically evaluated. Medically approved standard measuring instruments are used as a reference.
