cosinuss° equips the mountain rescue teams of the 71st Kandahar Race with the ultralight mobile patient monitoring system
Date: 25.1. – 2.2.2025
Location: Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The 71st Kandahar race of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup will take place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen from January 25 to February 2, 2025. This year, cosinuss° will once again be equipping the mountain rescue teams with its small and ultralight patient monitoring system. This will ensure continuous and mobile monitoring of the participating athletes directly on the slopes if necessary. The technology is provided free of charge by cosinuss°.
Mobile and continuous patient monitoring
During the entire men’s and women’s training and race days, the mountain rescue medical team will be equipped and trained with the c-med° alpha in-ear sensor and the °Health app. This innovative technology makes it possible to continuously monitor the athletes’ vital parameters on the move. The c-med° alpha not only measures pulse rate, oxygen saturation and body temperature, but also provides important additional data such as perfusion and quality index. Thanks to the continuously visible PPG signal in the cosinuss° Health app, mountain rescuers can carry out precise monitoring. With a weight of just 6.5 g, a size of 5.5 cm and wireless Bluetooth transmission, the sensor is not only extremely light, but also very user-friendly.
Proven technology in mountain rescue
The cosinuss° technology offers very good prerequisites for use in ski races, as previous studies and pilot projects – particularly in the field of mountain and air rescue – have shown. For example, a technical feasibility study conducted by the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in collaboration with the Bavarian Mountain Rescue Service and the Center for Safety and Training (Mountain Rescue Foundation) has shown in several investigations that the in-ear sensors can reliably record vital data from people involved in accidents in the mountains, even under extreme climatic conditions, during transportation and in the helicopter.
The technology is already being used successfully as standard by several European mountain rescue associations and air rescue companies.
About the race and the organizers
The Kandahar race is organized by the OK Ski-Weltcup e.V. and is considered one of the most challenging race courses in the Alpine Ski World Cup. Garmisch-Partenkirchen has been the venue for the traditional Arlberg-Kandahar races since 1954, and the FIS Ski World Cup races have been held here every year since 1970.
cosinuss° is delighted to be able to contribute to the safety of the athletes again this year and wishes the teams every success and safe races!
