Accurate detection of heart rate using in-ear photoplethysmography in a clinical setting

We are happy to announce that our study on accurate detection of heart rate with an in-ear sensor has been published in the journal Frontiers in Digital Health!

The aim of the study was to assess the performance of an in-ear wearable photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor in acquiring valid and reliable heart rate measurements in a clinical setting, with epileptic patients.

The patients were monitored with a video-electroencephalography (EEG) with concomitant one-lead electrocardiographic (ECG) recordings and were equipped with an in-ear sensor developed by cosinuss°.

The results confirm that the in-ear wearable PPG sensor provides accurate heart rate measurements in comparison with ECG under realistic clinical conditions, especially with a signal quality indicator.
